Finn Moray has been confirmed as a corporate sponsor for An Evening with Paul Lawrie, in conversation with Richard Gordon, at Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre on 13 April 2026 at 7.30pm.

Paul Lawrie, the 1999 Open Championship winner, is one of Scotland’s greatest ever sportsmen. But for Finn Moray founder David Sheret, it is what Lawrie consistently gives back to the north-east that stands him above many.

Sheret said: "What Paul does for people in the north-east goes way under the radar. He’s one of Scotland’s greatest sportsmen, but for me it’s what he consistently gives back that stands him above many. We’re delighted to be supporting this evening."

Lawrie himself expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: "Great to see so many people supporting and thanks to Morrison Motors, Gym Rental Company and Finn Moray for their support. Looking forward to sharing some stories, laughs and insights."

Ten Things to Know About Paul Lawrie MBE OBE

Paul Lawrie stands as one of Scotland’s greatest golfers. He wins The Open, plays Ryder Cups for Europe, and gives Scottish sport one of its finest comeback stories.

1. The Open, Carnoustie, 1999. He wins The Open at Carnoustie in 1999, which gives Scotland one of its most famous sporting moments.

2. The greatest final day comeback. He produces the greatest final day comeback in Open history, starting the last round 10 shots behind and still winning after a play-off.

3. First Scottish-born winner in 68 years. He becomes the first Scottish-born winner of The Open in Scotland since Tommy Armour in 1931, which makes the Carnoustie win even bigger in national terms.

4. The qualifier who won. He comes through qualifying at Downfield and becomes the first qualifier to win The Open since exemption rules for leading players are introduced in 1963.

5. Eight European Tour titles. He builds a career with eight European Tour titles, which puts him among the most successful Scottish golfers of the modern era.

6. Two Ryder Cups, two singles wins. He represents Europe in two Ryder Cups, in 1999 and 2012, and wins both of his singles matches.

7. A brilliant late-career revival. He produces a brilliant late-career revival, with the DP World Tour noting that he wins three times in two years on the way back to the 2012 Ryder Cup.

8. Scottish Senior Open champion. He keeps winning on Scottish soil later in life, taking the Scottish Senior Open in 2019 in his first season on the senior circuit, then landing Rookie of the Year.

9. Even Tiger Woods cites Lawrie as inspiration. During The Open in 2014, Woods says: “Hopefully, I can do something like Paul did in 1999.”

10. Aberdeen through and through. Away from golf, his favourite football team is Aberdeen FC. The club itself describes him as a lifelong Aberdeen fan, and Lawrie calls Aberdeen “my boyhood club.”

That is why Paul Lawrie is more than an Open champion. He is a proper Scottish sporting figure: Aberdeen through and through, tough as nails, and forever tied to one of golf’s greatest comeback wins.
